I’ve been thinking about Judge Aileen Cannon and the classified documents case in the Southern District of Florida. To me, like to many others watching from the outside, she seems to be over her head and rather lost in this CIPA (Classified Information Procedure Act) case.

I’d like to think that she’s just deceptively bright, perhaps just a little unorthodox and incorruptible — but everything I’ve seen so far tells me that would be wishful thinking.

Of course, it may just be my own preconceived notions about her position as a federal judge — maybe I’m expecting too much. You be the judge (huh!) and let me know if I’m off base here.

To my way of thinking (like, if it was me in her place), I would view a lifetime appointment as a federal trial judge as a blessing as well as a challenge and opportunity to excel.

To show my fellow judges, and supervising judges especially, that I have everything it takes to be a premier federal trial judge.

That I am neutral, fair, even-handed, cautious, patient, with a stellar judicial demeanor and peerless work ethic … always prepared, fully…
