If Jan 6 Wasn’t an Insurrection, Why Was Trump Urged to Invoke the Insurrection Act?

In another of those “huh, say what?” instances where the rather angular sharp corners of fact just won’t fit into someone’s smooth argument, I’m afraid I have to ask the obvious.

You see, Trump (and his attorneys and supporters) have been at great pains for years to argue that Jan 6 was not an insurrection or anything akin to it. They have described it as many things: from a peaceful protest to a rally gone bad, to a normal tourist visit. But they absolutely refuse to acknowledge that there was an insurrection on that day.

The problem is that all along, there have been independent chunks of evidence popping up that make it clear it was an insurrection (or rebellion) — and that, very importantly, everyone including Trump knew it at the time.

I daresay most people have known parts of this factually for some time, but over that same time the question of whether Jan 6 was an insurrection as to Trump became less important when he was not charged for the actual insurrection in the indictment by Jack Smith.

So, why is it becoming an issue again in 2023?
