When I was a small child my Mom disappeared for several months. I went to stay with relatives in another state, with no idea of why. Years later I found out that Mom had gone somewhere to have an abortion and hide her shame, because where we were they could not be had. It was illegal, but evidently it was at least safe. Still missing some details, and now Mom is gone.
